UNIVERSITI MALAYA (UM)
Universiti Malaya (UM) is the oldest and the best higher education institution in Malaysia. It ranked 70th globally in the QS World Rankings 2023 and its quality of education has been acknowledged internationally. UM is the only university in Malaysia to be in the top 60 universities worldwide and it has listed in the top 1% of institutions in the world.
Back to its establishment in 1949, UM is the first and premier research university in Malaya with the merger of King Edward VII College of Medicine and Raffles College. Its establishment accelerated the advancement of education in Malaya and this resulted in the gaining two autonomous national universities in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 1959.
UM offers over 200 world-class and comprehensive programmes at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels encompass Medicine, Science and Technology, Social Sciences and Humanities. It constantly collaborates with top-notch lecturers, exchange programmes, corporate sector as well as guest professors that aims to bring out the best in students. UM helps students explore, maximize and harness their true potential and strength.
UM is supported by the biggest and first research teaching hospital – University of Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC), It is also recognized as a top research institution that have more than 50 research centres with great emphasis. Today, UM has over 27,000 students and international student make up to 14% of the student population that coming from over 90 different countries across the world.
Most notably, UM has successfully produced more than 189,000 exemplary individuals which including three Prime Minister of Malaysia that have contributed significantly to the country. For example, Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad (the 4th and 7th Prime Minister of Malaysia); Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi (5th Prime Minister of Malaysia); Tan Sri Dato’ Haji Muhyiddin Mohd Yassin (8th Prime Minister of Malaysia) and many more.
