Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) is one of the oldest public research universities in Malaysia that established in 1971 and it has a strong history rooted in Malay nationalism. It is also known as The National University of Malaysia that attracts both local and international students by offering a diverse range of programmes with an international touch. With its international recognition, UKM partners with universities across the world such as Southeast Asia, Europe and the United States to offer Summer Mobility Programmes. 

Over the past 50 years, UKM has made a huge grown from 3 faculties to its current 13 faculties and 13 research institutes to offer students a wide variety of academic programmes from Medicine, Pharmacy, Health Science and Medicine to Social Sciences, Economics and Education. Today, UKM has approximately 172,000 alumni worldwide and notable alumni include the Malaysia’s first astronaut, Dr Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor; the former deputy prime minister, Datuk Razali Ibrahim and singer Jess Lee.

UKM has strong academic reputation as Malaysia’s national university. In 2006, UKM awarded Prime Minister’s Quality Award which certified as one of the five research universities in Malaysia with its achievements in producing numerous researches in high quality.

In 2012, UKM is the only Malaysian university to place in the QS Top Universities Under 50 Years. It is ranked in the top 1% and it is ranked 12th worldwide in the QS Top 50 Universities Under 50 Years. In a nutshell, UKM has a good ranking in QS World University Rankings and it has achieved 5 stars (Rated for Excellent).

UKM has comprehensive on-campus learning facilities in Bangi (Main Campus) and branch campuses in Cheras, also Kuala Lumpur. There are now having over 25,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students in UKM, including nearly 3,000 international students from 57 countries.
